ABOUT BESPOKE ENGLISH

私たちの思考様式、世界に対する認識、そして他者との関係性の構築は、その大部分が「言語」という根源的な枠組み――いわば精神活動における無形の設計図――によって深く方向付けられています。この観点から、新たな言語体系を習得するという行為は、表向きには未知の世界への扉を開き、思考の視野を質的に拡大させ、個人をより自由な精神活動へと導く重要な潜在力（ポテンシャル）を有していると言えます。

しかし言語はその一方で、私たちの可能性を制約する要因、すなわち「足枷」ともなり得る両義的な性格を有しています。例えば、思考の速度や深さに言葉が追いつかない、複雑な概念や機微に富んだニュアンスを既存の語彙や統語構造の範囲内では的確に表現しきれない、あるいは無自覚のうちに母語特有の思考様式や価値観に束縛されている状態などが、その典型例として挙げられます。これらの言語的制約は、個人が本来有する知性、貴重な経験知、そして内発的な情熱が、外界に対して十全な形で表現され、社会的に意味のある「形」として明示されることを妨げる可能性があります。その結果、個人の影響力や自己実現の範囲が、不本意に限定されてしまうという事態も生じかねません。

私たちBESPOKE ENGLISHは、言語が持つこの二重性――人間を精神的に解放し新たな視座を与える「光」の側面と、時に思考や表現の自由を制約しうる「影」の側面――この両面が織りなす根源的な力と、それが個人の可能性に与える影響を見つめています。言語の生み出す自由、同時に制約の緊張関係を自覚的に乗り越え、個人のもつ創造的な力を最大限に引き出すことこそが、存在、同時に相互理解に満ちた対話のある世界のために不可欠であると、私たちは考え、勝負しています。

The way we think, our perception of the world, and how we form relationships with others are largely directed by the fundamental framework of 'language'—an intangible blueprint, so to speak, for our mental activity. From this perspective, acquiring a new language system can indeed appear to hold significant potential: ostensibly opening doors to unknown worlds, qualitatively expanding our horizons of thought, and guiding individuals toward freer mental activity.

However, language, on the other hand, possesses an ambivalent character, capable of becoming a factor that constrains our potential—in effect, 'fetters.' Typical examples include experiences where words cannot keep pace with the speed or depth of thought, the difficulty of accurately expressing complex concepts or subtle nuances within existing vocabulary and syntax, or a state of being unconsciously bound by the thought patterns and values peculiar to one's native tongue. These linguistic constraints can hinder the inherent intellect, valuable experiential knowledge, and intrinsic passion of an individual from being fully expressed to the outer world and manifested in a socially meaningful 'form.' Consequently, an individual's sphere of influence and self-realization may well be undesirably limited.

We at BESPOKE ENGLISH observe this duality of language—its 'light' aspect that can mentally liberate individuals and offer new perspectives, and its 'shadow' aspect that can, at times, constrain freedom of thought and expression—this fundamental power arising from both sides, and its impact on individual potential. We operate on a crucial wager: that consciously navigating the tension between the freedom language engenders and the constraints it simultaneously imposes, and striving to unleash an individual’s creative power to its fullest, is an indispensable venture. This venture, we contend, is vital for a more authentic mode of being and for fostering a world where genuine dialogue—however imperfect and marked by the constant struggle for understanding—might actually take root. This is the challenge we embrace.
